The objective of the Junior Academy is to promote the study of and participation in
science by elementary, middle, and high school students and teachers. The IJAS is open to public, private, and home school students.

To submit abstracts and register for the IJAS Science Symposium click on IJAS Science Symposium.

Scientists, teachers, graduate and undergraduate students are invited to be a volunteer for IJAS. Help middle and high school students by becoming a proposal reviewer, a judge, or use your expertise to be a resource. Reviewers are needed in November and June. Judges are needed on Friday morning of the IAS Annual Meeting in April.

When you arrive at the conference stop at the Registration Desk to pick up your copy of the 133rd IAS Annual Meeting Proceedings. Copies are available for attendees who registered in advance. Guests do not receive copies.

To assure a meal and a copy of the Proceedings you must advance register by the deadline. Registration is available at the conference at a higher fee but we cannot guarantee the availability of meals or copies of the Proceedings. Inquire at the Registration Desk.


Outstanding Science Student Award Nomination Deadline: First Friday in March for medal delivery by March 31st.
Allow up to three weeks for delivery if submitted after the first Friday in March.


Information for Non-Members

IJAS student scientists learn science by doing science. Middle and high school students develop critical thinking skills, collaborate with mentors, improve oral and written communication skills, and learn to plan and complete research projects. Students are eligible to apply for research grants, receive feedback from IAS scientists and science educators, and have opportunities to collaborate with scientists and other IJAS students. Members may compete for awards, scholarships, and a chance to represent Iowa at the American Junior Academy of Science Annual Meeting - all expenses paid.

Memberships are available for schools and individuals. Home school students are welcome.
